You’ll notice that your Health Bar keeps dropping to more and more precarious levels as raiders and prairie chickens maul you. Do not be alarmed! There are many ways a prepared survivor of the Province can overcome such adversity.
All characters finish the tutorial at level 2. Characters gain 5 Health each time they level up, but this can be improved by as much as half if a character maxes out his or her Strength and Endurance attributes. Characters can also use medical items created by crafters in a similar fashion.
Access to First Aid Skills and Healing Mutation Paths can greatly speed your recovery, and remaining well-fed and hydrated with food and drink items will serve to lower your necessary downtime during exploration. The tradeoff to such preparation, of course, is having less room in your pack for your (potentially ill-gotten) gains and some reduction in your Stamina, but it’s better than having your corpse decorate the belly of a Blight Wolf.
Finally, Healing Mutations can relieve wounds and damaging effects, though using mutations costs the healer Gamma (and sometimes Health) for the effort. Healing effects are stackable, so healers are free to combine any of these methods in order to keep a teammate (or themselves) alive.
