There is no difference in terms of vault space or use. For example:

Where can I get these Crafted storage space items?
There are ten knowledge book items that can be looted from tougher Deadfall NPCs or purchased directly from other players or via the Auction House. These are: General Armorcraft, General Ballistics, General Construction, General Cooking, General Geology, General Medicine, General Mutagenics, General Nature, General Science, and General Weaponry. Each of these books contains two recipes for components; these components are used to make Handmade Safety Deposit Box items. The General Construction book also contains recipes for the 8-slot Handmade Sector Safety Deposit Box, 16-slot Handmade Sector Safety Deposit Box, 8-slot Handmade Barter Safety Deposit Box, and 16-slot Handmade Barter Safety Deposit Box.

The components for the 8-slot boxes require 150 skill to craft, and components for the 16-slot boxes require 180. These components can be purchased from and sold to other players, directly or via the Auction House. The Handmade Safety Deposit Box recipes only require one point of Construction, so that they can be crafted by anyone.
Handmade Safety Deposit Box items cannot be bought, sold, or traded; they must be used by the character who crafts them.
Is there a limit to how many Safety Deposit Boxes I can acquire?

The items are character-bound, meaning once they are applied to a single character, they may not be applied to any other character(s) (on the same or a different account).
For example, user Circatrix may redeem Reward Points to acquire all eight of the Exclusive and Prestige storage items. She chooses to apply them to her character Bearly1, adding 96 total slots in addition to the storage she’s already acquired in-game. She will not be able to redeem Reward Points for additional vault space or apply any additional vault space from the Fallen Earth Store to Bearly1, as she has met the maximum number of additional storage slots that may be purchased from the Store or in-game via Reward Points. Additionally, the 8 items she purchased and applied to Bearly1 may not be added to any of her other characters or accounts, as they are character-bound.
What is the total number of additional storage slots available if I acquire or purchase as many as I’m allowed?
If you acquire the crafted storage items, redeem Reward Points for vault space and/or purchase vault space from the Fallen Earth Store, you can add up to 144 storage slots to your character, in addition to any storage slots you may have already acquired through gameplay (ie, space in a vault, vehicle or mount storage, etc.).
You may not acquire and apply the same item twice for an individual character (ie, you may not purchase two 8-slot Exclusive Barter Safety Deposit Boxes in place of one 16-slot Exclusive Barter Safety Deposit Box).
Can I acquire or buy Safety Deposit Boxes for each of my characters?
Yes, since the items are character-bound (meaning, applied to and used exclusively by an individual character), you may acquire and apply boxes to each character.
Yes, since the items are character-bound (meaning, applied to and used exclusively by an individual character), you may acquire and apply boxes to each character.
For example:
User Circatrix can acquire an 8-slot Prestige Sector Safety Deposit Box, a 16-slot Prestige Sector Safety Deposit Box, an 8-slot Prestige Barter Safety Deposit Box, a 16-slot Prestige Barter Safety Deposit Box, an 8-slot Exclusive Sector Safety Deposit Box, a 16-slot Exclusive Sector Safety Deposit Box, an 8-slot Exclusive Barter Safety Deposit Box, a 16-slot Exclusive Barter Safety Deposit Box, an 8-slot Handmade Sector Safety Deposit Box, a 16-slot Handmade Sector Safety Deposit Box, an 8-slot Handmade Barter Safety Deposit Box, and a 16-slot Handmade Barter Safety Deposit Box for each character on her account.
If I delete a character, do I lose the Safety Deposit Box I put on that character and the items associated with it?
Yes. If you choose to delete a character, you will lose any additional vault space they have purchased, as well as any items still in that character's Vaults, Mounts, Gear, and Pack.

How do I apply a Safety Deposit Box to a character?
If you redeemed Reward Points for a box:
If you redeemed Reward Points for a box:
The character you use to interact with the Rewards Merchant is the character that will receive the item. The item is given to you by the Merchant. You’ll need to find it in your Pack and use it. Its use triggers an attribute that expands your existing vault space by the number of units you just acquired. For example:
User Circatrix visits the Rewards Merchant and acquires the 8-slot Prestige Sector Safety Deposit Box. She finds it in her pack, uses the item, and her Sector Vault storage expands by 8 slots. The items she stores in these 8 slots are accessed in the same way that she accesses items located in a Sector Vault.
If you purchase a box from the Fallen Earth Store:
Your purchase will result in a special code (located in your purchase confirmation page, in an email which is sent to you, and on the “Subscription” tab of your User Management page). To apply the code to the character you wish to receive the additional storage, from within the game click the Menu button in your User Interface and click “Redeem Key” (you must have completed the tutorial to redeem a key). Enter the code you were provided, exactly as it appears, in the field. Click “Submit” and the item will appear in your Pack. Find the item in your Pack and use it. Its use triggers an attribute that expands your existing vault space by the number of units you just acquired. If you don’t have enough space in your pack for the item and you try to apply the key, you’ll get a message that says “Key Failed.” At this time, you’ll need to clear space in your pack.
Reapply the key and it should work as normal.
For example:
User Circatrix visits the Fallen Earth Store and purchases the 8-slot Exclusive Barter Safety Deposit Box. She receives the code via email and applies it to her character, Bearly1. She finds it in her pack, uses the item, and her Barter Vault storage expands by 8 slots. The items she stores in these 8 slots are accessed in the same way that she accesses items located in a Barter Vault.
To use a Crafted item:
Only the character who crafts the Handmade Safety Deposit Box may use it. Once crafted, these items cannot be traded. A character must acquire the recipe book General Construction, which contains the recipes for all four Handmade Safety Deposit Box items. Then they will need five components for each recipe. These components can be purchased from another player or the Auction House, or crafted with the appropriate recipe and high enough skill. The recipe books all start with General, followed by the name of the tradeskill (for example General Science), and can be looted from NPCs in Deadfall or purchased directly from other players or via the Auction House. The Safety Deposit Box items only require one point of Construction skill, and can be made by anyone.
User Circatrix buys the book General Construction off of the Auction House, or loots it from an NPC in Deadfall. She uses this book to gain the recipes for Handmade Safety Deposit Boxes. She opens the recipe window to see which components are required for the 8-slot Handcrafted Sector Security Deposit Box. These are: Salvaged Wooden Box, Salvaged Razor Blades, Salvaged Bioscan Lock, Impure Anti-Scratch Coating, and Questionable Extreme Jerky. Circatrix's Cooking skill is 151 and her Weaponry is 160, so she purchases the books General Cooking and General Weaponry and makes Questionable Extreme Jerky and Salvaged Razor Blades herself, but her Construction, Nature, and Science skills are below 150, so she buys the other three components off of the Auction House. Once she has all five components, she crafts the 8-Slot Handcrafted Sector Security Deposit Box, finds it in her pack, uses the item, and her Sector Vault storage expands by 8 slots. The items she stores in these 8 slots are accessed in the same way that she accesses items located in a Sector Vault.
How does a Safety Deposit Box work?
Each Safety Deposit Box is an item that you use on an individual character. When used, the item triggers an attribute that expands your existing vault space by the number of units you acquired.
For example:
User Circatrix acquires the 8-slot Exclusive Sector Safety Deposit Box and applies it to her character, Bearly1. When she uses the item, it triggers an attribute that automatically expands her Sector Vault space by 8 slots. The items she stores in these 8 slots are accessed in the same way that she accesses items located in a Sector Vault.
